Joinher Counseling

MY Story Begins with You.

Who is Lona Joiner-Maddox?

Compassionate Care. Meaningful Healing. Renewed Hope.

Lona Marie Joiner-Maddox, LICDC, MSPC, is a dedicated and compassionate mental health and substance use professional with 14 years of experience helping individuals and families navigate life’s most challenging seasons.

Holding a Master of Science in Professional Counseling (MSPC) and a Post-Master’s degree in Counseling Trauma, Lona specializes in substance use recovery and trauma-informed care, with a focus on the impact of substance use due to grief, abuse, emotional neglect, and emotional and physical suffering.

Lona believes that recovery is possible, even after the most difficult experiences. Her approach creates a safe, supportive, and compassionate space where individuals can begin to understand their experiences, rediscover their strength, and move toward meaningful change.

Her unwavering commitment is to walk alongside each person on their journey—helping them heal from the past, grow through the present, and reclaim a life filled with hope, purpose, and possibility by addressing their addiction in supportive and meaningful way.

Healing with Purpose. Living with Intention.

Lona’s therapeutic approach is grounded in empathy, faith, and evidence-based practices designed to empower clients to break unhealthy cycles, build resilience, and recognize the strength they already possess. She is especially passionate about supporting individuals and their families navigating life transitions, caregivers, and individuals and families facing life-altering challenges related to substances and/or alcohol use.

Lona integrates her clinical expertise with therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), alongside practical coaching strategies. Her goal is to create a supportive and empowering environment where clients can embrace recovery, develop healthier patterns, and learn to live with intention, self-love, confidence, and renewed purpose.

Because of her own familial experiences with the effects of substance use, Lona understands that recovery reaches beyond the individual. She is committed to fostering accountability, collaboration, compassion, and support among clients and their families—creating opportunities for understanding, restoration, and meaningful change.

A Life Rooted in Service

Beyond her clinical work, Lona is a wife, mother, mentor, speaker, and advocate. She believes that true fabulosity is found in lifting others as you rise, giving back, and paying it forward.

Her mission is to create spaces where healing is welcomed, hope is restored, recovery is obtainable and transformation becomes possible. With a career rooted in service and a heart shaped by personal experience, Lona brings together professional expertise, lived understanding, and genuine compassion to help others not simply survive their circumstances—but heal, thrive, and become the fullest expression of who they were created to be.
